A visiting football fan who saw Carlisle v Hibernian game on Tuesday suffered serious facial injuries after being attacked.
Police have now launched an investigation.
The violence - the second violent incident currently being investigated by police following the match - happened on Warwick Road at around 9.30pm as a group of four Hibs fans were walking along Warwick Road near to the junction with Eldred Street.
The victim was with a four-strong group of friends and wearing a white Elise T-shirt and black jacket.
One of his friends was wearing a bright green jacket and had blonde hair.
"Anyone who witnessed this group of visiting supporters being attacked should please contact PC 2050 Black," said a police spokeswoman, urging witnesses to call 101 if they can help.
Police are also investigating a public order incident which erupted on Botchergate at around 10pm on Tuesday.
Two football fans were arrested.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said at the time: "A 26-year-old man from East Lothian was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and remains in police custody. A 49-year-old man from Edinburgh was arrested on on Cecil Street on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody."
Hibs won 4-3 against Carlisle United in the friendly at Brunton Park.
