The police were called after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man in Wigton.
Just before 10 am the police were called to Syke Road, where they discovered the body of a man.
He has not yet been named but is believed to be in his 60s.
Cumbria Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
A spokesman said: " Police were called about concerns for the safety of the occupant of an address in Syke Road in Wigton at around 9.50am.
" We’re not treating the death as suspicious at this time and are preparing a file for the coroner."
