Young nursing students swapped stethoscopes for spatulas to raise money for a leading charity.

Nurse Cadet students at Lakes College took part in the Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day baking challenge, making and selling their own cupcake creations to raise money for the charity.

A spokesman for the charity said that dementia is “now the leading cause of death in England and Wales, overtaking both cancer and heart disease.

“In the average time it takes to bake a batch of cakes, six people in the UK will develop dementia.

“The nurse cadets chose to support last week’s event baking and decorating a range of delicious treats selling them to fellow students and members of the college team.

“Their kindness and efforts managed to raise over an incredible £230.”
