A PLEA has been made to Alston residents to get involved and complete a neighbourhood housing survey.

At the latest meeting of Alston Moor parish council, Eden district councillor Lissie Sharp asked for locals to help the authority plan for future social housing.

The surveys have been posted out to households in the area.

Views made by the community will be taken into consideration when decisions are made by the district council.

During the meeting, which took place earlier this month, a range of topics affecting residents and visitors were discussed.

On the parish council, it was revealed that all 15 seats have been filled following the election of councillors Andy Holt and Michael Hanley on May 2.

Chris Johnson, parish clerk, updated members on a number of continuing issues, including ongoing discussions on the progress of a public footpath at Ashgill Force.

Elsewhere, it was announced that Nenthead Snowplough had reached an agreement with ST Railway for them to undertake maintenance of their equipment.

The meeting also highlighted that an incorrect spelling of one of the names on the Alston War Memorial will be amended, costing a total of £48.

The money to pay for the problem to be rectified will covered by donations to the World War One exhibition at Alston Local Links.

Alston Moor parish council’s next meeting will take place on Monday, July 8 at 7pm at the Town Hall.

It is open for the public to come along and attend.
