Union bosses are due to meet with a Sellafield contracting company after two months of on-and-off strikes at the nuclear site.
Mitie’s Unite members are striking until 6am on Monday and a meeting with the company is due to take place next Wednesday to consider further options in the pay dispute.
The dispute is a result of staff employed by Mitie on the Sellafield contract – including security guards, cleaners, catering, vending, laundry and environmental operatives – rejecting the company’s pay offer with workers receiving £8.45 an hour.
Ryan Armstrong, Unite’s regional organiser said: “We want anyone going through the Sellafield gates to be on at least the foundation minimum wage of £9 an hour. Members’ spirits are very high, I’d describe the action as solid.”
He added action had been called off for two days to allow for talks with Mitie, but the company cancelled the planned meeting and strikes went ahead.
It is understood GMB, the only union recognised by Mitie, filed a formal complaint to the TUC against Unite as to how it attains its membership.
GMB was approached for comment.
