A QUIZ night held by the trust which runs Wigton’s swimming pool has raised more than £200 which will go towards various ongoing projects.

On May 9 Wigton Baths held the quiz night at Wigton Bowling Club raising £285.

Alan Pitcher, honorary president of Wigton Baths Trust, said: “We had our considerate and helpful quiz master Jim Tuke. Nothing is any bother to him. He’s always ‘Mr Right’ but maintains a great rapport with everyone.

“It’s a popular quiz and was well attended again this year with 13 teams of four.”

The trust also had a raffle as well as dingbats and logo quizzes, friends and trust members donated all prizes.

An Easter quiz sheet was sold at the baths and in local shops, £100 was raised from this.

Mr Pitcher continued: “The monies raised will go towards a new disabled shower and chair and the rest will be put towards future projects.

“The trust is delighted that the people of Wigton are continually supportive of the baths, I am still amazed at the support we continue to get.”

After becoming a target for vandals on more than one occasion this year, the baths have now started the installation of CCTV.

The CCTV will be installed around the outside of the building for security and health and safety reasons and there are no plans to have any internally. The decision to put this up came as vandals had been seen climbing the roof of the building looking through the windows at people swimming.

No data from the CCTV will be kept for more than 30 days and only viewed if there is an incident, viewing will be restricted to certain staff members.
