TWO Cockermouth woman with Mozambique links made £2,000 at an event to raise funds for people whose lives were devastated by the recent cyclone.

Thirty five people enjoyed the meal and music at Wild Zucchinis. Twenty three artists had donated pieces to be auctioned.

Clare Brown, 71, worked in Mozambique, in south east Africa, as a teacher for many years in the 1970s.

Her friend, Ruth Balogh, has extended family living in in an area which was badly hit.

They were delighted with how much money they managed to raise.

"Everyone gained something: people in Mozambique will be able to buy tin roofing sheets for their cyclone hit houses and people in Cockermouth were able to buy high quality art works," said Clare.
