Carlisle firefighters responded to two fires close to the city centre last night.
Carlisle West fire crew sped to a fire close to the Rome Street former gasworks at about 8pm last night.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a 50m section of the Caldew riverbank was "well alight".
A fire service spokesman said that "it took about an hour to bring that fire under control".
"Then we were back again at the same place, at about 10pm.
"It took us about an hour again to bring that second fire under control."
Both fires were located on the banks of the River Caldew, between the Denton Holme and Currock areas of the city.
