Traffic on London Road in Carlisle has been brought to a standstill at times today following the opening of KFC.
Residents living nearby have spoken of chaos as the fast food chain aimed to deliver its promise.
Cars queuing to turn in to the drive-thru have held up traffic on London Road.
Others meanwhile have abandoned their cars in Petteril Terrace, a quiet residential street which is bearing the brunt of the access problems.
Customers who arrive on foot and queued in the restaurant said they waited between 20 minutes to and hour to get served.
Glen Burkett, 45, who lives off London Road, said: “I know Fridays are crazy but I think the council is going to have to have something to say about this.
“At the moment they are stopping taking orders.
“I quite like KFC. It was a miss when it came out of the town so it’s nice to see it back but a little bit more thought should have gone into having it on London Road. It’s one of the busiest thoroughfares in Carlisle.”
