A man is in a critical condition after collapsing on a Carlisle bus.
North West Ambulance Service were called to Carlisle Bus Station in Lonsdale Street shortly after 2pm to a man who collapsed.
The bus was travelling from Penrith to Carlisle.
A spokeswoman for the service confirmed that the man is in a critical condition and was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
Traffic was being stopped by police on Castle Way on the westbound side of the carriageway to allow the ambulance to leave the scene, with the eastbound side unaffected.
Cumbria Police say the incident is a "medical emergency".
A spokeswoman for the force said: "Police were called at 14.24pm to the report of a concern for the welfare of a person on a bus at the bus station on Lonsdale Street, Carlisle.
"It is believed a man has fallen ill on the bus.
"An ambulance has attended and the man has been taken to hospital."
