THE ex-headteacher of Trinity School in Carlisle has paid tribute to one of his former staff who died.
Joan Walls, who taught maths at the secondary school on Strand Road, died in March in the Cumberland Infirmary.
Her funeral, attended by many former colleagues and pupils, took place earlier this month at St Michael’s Church in Stanwix followed by a cremation.
Bryan Dexter, who was head at the school from 1982 to 1997, said: “Joan was an excellent maths teacher who taught at all levels from year seven to 13, but it was the Advanced Level work which she enjoyed most.
“She was a loyal, hardworking and conscientious professional with a great sense of humour, who was highly regarded by all her former colleagues, so many of whom attended her funeral service.”
Mrs Walls leaves her daughter Jackie, son-in-law Colin and her grandchildren James and Anna.
