The Boys are Back - and Lee Brennan is delighted to be among them.

The 911 singer and his band mates will take the stage in Carlisle on the same bill as three other 1990s’ boy bands.

The Boys are Back comes to the Sands Centre next February.

As well as 911 the night will also feature Five, A1 and Damage.

Between them the four bands have had 33 top 10 singles in the UK, including six number ones.

Lee says: “We’ve all done our individual tours. Some of us have released records.

“Doing things collectively is a good way to give nostalgia. It’s great having a lot of boy bands together. It’s a good mix of music.

“Ninety-five per cent of the fans are female. A lot of them have kids. It’s a chance for them to escape for one night. Get their friends together for a fun night and go back to how they felt back in the day.”

911 and Five were among the acts to feature in ITV2 series The Big Reunion in 2013. This saw seven 90s’ bands reuniting and performing together.

“With The Big Reunion, a lot of people who didn’t know about the bands first time around became fans when they saw us on TV,” says Lee.

“That gave us a younger audience as well as those who saw us in the 90s.”

The majority of 911 fans are in their 30 and 40s, just like the band. Lee is 45 and says he won’t be able to party every night on tour.

“I love being on the road, going to different places. I’ll have to pick my days when I have a blow out.

“We’re doing 30 dates with lots of back to back shows. I’ll have to be professional. I want to have the energy to put on a great show. The show we put on is very physical.

“I was chatting to [band mate] Spike [Dawbarn] about it this morning. We’re back in the gym. We’re going to look the best we’ve looked for years.”

Lee moved back to Carlisle in 2017. How does he feel about performing in his home city?

“I usually feel a bit more pressure. But I’m just going to enjoy it.”
