THE residents of Stanwix are gearing up for a week of action picking up litter and declaring war on waste.

This year marks the 10th year of the Stanwix Big Tidy and it will be held from Monday, March 25 to March 30.

Councillor Paul Nedved said: “Over the years we have collected hundreds of bags of litter in Stanwix.

“Last year we had more than 50 volunteers including Friends of Rickerby Park, Stanwix School children and parents, 13th Carlisle Scouts, other community and voluntary group representatives, local councillors and a number of residents and volunteers from other areas of Carlisle. We are a little later this year so we can coincide with the Great British Spring Clean from March 22 to April 23.”

A focus this year will be on graffiti and dog fouling.

A community litter pick takes place on Saturday, March 30 from 10am to 1pm.

All equipment and refreshments will be provided.
