A MAN who stole a crate of beer has been landed with a court bill for more than £100.

Robert Lawless, of Oaklands Drive, Carlisle, said he was drunk when he lifted the £13 box of Budweiser from the Co-op in Blackwell Road on October 5.

The 20-year-old appeared at the magistrates court in Carlisle on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to the theft.

He has been in prison since that offence and was sentence by conditional discharge.

He was ordered to pay £13 compensation, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
