FIREFIGHTERS rushed to help a man who got a handheld grinder stuck in his arm.

Crews from Penrith and Shap were called to assist the North West Ambulance Service at an incident at Shap this morning.

They were needed to work at height after the casualty suffered serious, but none life threatening injuries.

He was stretchered down from some scaffolding as his injuries meant paramedics were unable to move him.

He was airlifted to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance Service, which was called to the scene at 11.20am.
