A 28-year-old Carlisle man is in a serious condition in a Newcastle hospital after a crash on the A69 near Low Row.

The accident happened at around 3.50pm on Friday, January 11, between the road's Gilsland junction and Low Row.

In a statement today, Cumbria Police said that the man's blue BMW 320 car, which was travelling westwards towards Carlisle, left the road and collided with trees on the road's verge.

"The driver of the BMW 320, a 28-year-old man from Carlisle, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he is described as being in a serious condition," said a spokesman for the force.

"His family have been notified."

Firefighters from both Cumbria and Northumbria were called to the scene.

Police are now appealing for anybody who may have seen the man's car as it travelled westbound on the A69, or anybody who may have relevant dashcam footage, to get in touch as soon as possible.

Call 101 and ask for PC 2326 Fawkes.

Anybody who does get in touch should quote log number 153 of January 11.
