A STATIONERY retailer in Carlisle is closing its doors and moving to a new location.

Office Outlet, formerly known as Staples, was expected to shut its doors today (SAT) but will stay open a little longer until its new store is ready.

Store closing' and 'everything must go' signs have been placed in the window at the office and stationery supplies store, next to Matalan.

The Carlisle branch of Office Outlet, in Station Retail Park, James Street, opened in 1999.

The News & Star understands that staff will transfer to the new branch on a retail park in the south of the city.

Details of the exact location have yet to be revealed.

In August last year, the firm confirmed plans to launch a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) including some store closures. The proposals also saw the retailer request rent-free periods from landlords.

The retailer outlined plans to close four of its 96 UK stores during the latter part of 2018 as part of the CVA and request a three-year rent-free period from landlords across a further 20.

Office Outlet has spent the last two years carrying out an operational re-organisation, 35 of its larger stores have been divided and sublet into smaller units.
