A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital after he was injured in Carlisle's London Road on New Year's Eve.
The 38-year-old, who is local to the area, was transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after he sustained serious head and leg injuries.
He was found by a member of the public lying partially into the carriageway, on the footpath below Chertsey Mount at about 10pm.
Police said it is unclear how he came to suffer his injuries and are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man - who was wearing a blue hooded top and light-coloured jeans - to come forward.
Officers are also asking anyone with dashcam footage, who travelled on London Road between 9pm and 10.30pm, to make contact with PC353 Thomson on 101.
The family of the injured man have been informed.
