An elderly pedestrian has been hurt after being struck by a car.
The woman, a 72-year-old from Carlisle, was injured after being hit on Main Street, Brampton, at shortly before 5.30pm.
Emergency services were at the scene, near its junction with Union Lane, for almost two-and-a-half hours.
The road reopened at about 7.45pm
An eye witness said: "Members of the public were helping out by directing traffic as the road was completely closed on what is a very dark wet night here in Brampton."
The casualty was taken by ambulance straight to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious leg injuries.
The car driver, a man from Penrith, was uninjured.
