SHOPPERS will be able to park for free in Workington and Cockermouth to support late-night shop openings in the run up to Christmas.

Allerdale council is providing free parking at some locations during late-night shopping events in Workington and Cockermouth.

Michael Heaslip, executive member with responsibility for environmental quality, said: “Workington and Cockermouth are two of our most popular towns for shopping, both of which are arranging additional late night shop openings in the run-up to Christmas. To support those extra shopping opportunities, we are providing some free parking in the town centres on those nights only. We are pleased to be able to support those shopkeepers making that extra effort to promote the local economy and encourage thriving and vibrant town centres.”

Parking will be free in Cockermouth on Thursday, November 22, from 5pm to 8pm. The offer is available in the Riverside, Bitterbeck, All Saints, Memorial Gardens and Sullart Street car parks. Please note that Sainsbury’s car park is not included.

In Workington, visitors will have the option of three nights of free parking at the multi-storey car park during its late night shopping events. These will take place from 4pm to 8pm on December 6, 13 and 20.
