A DRIVER had to be cut free from her car following a crash near Brampton.

The town's retained crew and Carlisle East were called to reports of a head-on collision involving two cars close to Denton Mill on the A69.

It happened shortly before 6pm on Wednesday.

Brampton Fire Station said on Facebook: "Remarkably the driver of the VW was able to free themselves from the vehicle before we got there.

"This left us the task of helping the paramedics with the care of the driver of the Skoda before being able to safely extract them from the vehicle.

"The Brampton crew started on the removal of the roof, while the paramedics cared for the driver. We were then joined by the Carlisle appliance who helped us with the extrication of the casualty."

The casualty was taken to hospital but her condition is unknown.

The A69 was blocked in both directions for more than an hour while the incident was dealt with.
