An alleged historic rape victim was “absolutely tormented” later in life, his mother has told a jury.

Carlisle Crown Court has heard the male was aged 13 when the alleged offence was said to have taken place.

Vincent Joseph Hudson, 54, is accused of carrying out the alleged sex attack. He has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape.

The jury at his trial heard the complainant woke to find himself being raped by a man who had given him cannabis and a “drugged” cup of tea.

On day two of the hearing, the alleged victim’s mother gave evidence to a jury.

She said he was a cannabis user and later moved on to harder illegal substances.

“He was absolutely tormented,” she told the jury.

Only when he had been “off drugs” for around 12 months, during early 2015, did he make the “revelation” of the alleged rape.

Hudson, of Loweswater Avenue, Whitehaven, has yet to give evidence.

The trial continues.
