A MAN was given a jail sentence for assaulting his partner in Carlisle.
Andrew Sullivan, 34, pleaded guilty to one charge at the city's crown court today.
Sullivan admitted assaulting the woman on December 29 following an argument between the pair earlier in the day.
He was sentenced immediately for the offence by Judge Tony Lancaster.
The judge heard the defendant had served the equivalent of an eight-month prison sentence on remand in connection with the offence.
Sullivan, of Ellesmere Way, Morton, Carlisle, was jailed for five months but, because of time spent on remand, he was expected to be released from custody.
