A WOMAN had to go to hospital after being bitten by a dog in Annan.

Police Scotland are trying to trace the owner of the animal.

It happened in Hospital Road at about 11.15am on Monday, June 27.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, stopped to speak to a woman with the dog when it bit her on the hand.

The teeth punctured her hand and she had to attend Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The woman with the dog walked off after the incident.

It is described as a white and tan coloured large Akita-type dog.

The woman walking it is described as being in her late 20s/early 30s, 5ft 4in or 5ft 5in tall, with blonde hair in a bobble, wearing a grey hooded top and dark coloured leggings.

Constable Suzanne Paul, at Annan, said: "We have carried out extensive door to door enquiries in Hospital Road and the surrounding streets looking for witnesses to this incident.

"We appeal to anyone who recognises the description of this dog or the woman who was walking it to get in touch through 101.

"We also ask the woman herself to come forward in order to clear this matter up."
