Two pensioners had to be rescued from the top of a mountain after getting lost in mist.

The women, aged 68 and 75, called for help after getting into trouble on a ridge on Glaramara.

They were unable to find their way off the mountain and we said to be exhausted.

A spokesman for Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said that conditions were deteriorating when the call came in, at about 3.35pm on Tuesday.

"One team of rescuers with a search dog set off immediately to search up Hind Ghyll, whilst a second group, also with a search dog, set off a bit later to search up from Mountain View towards Combe Ghyll," he said.

"Shortly after this group got going, the women were found by search dog Rona, part of the Lake District Mountain Rescue Searchdogs, near Combe Head."

The spokesman continued: "The two exhausted women were escorted down to Mountain View, where they were picked up by a team vehicle and driven round to their car which was at Seathwaite.

"They had been on the hill for 10 hours at this point."

In total 13 team members were involved in the rescue, which took more than three hours.
