A concert in memory of a popular Carlisle man will return for the sixth year - and is boasting its biggest name to date.

The LW Rock 4 Macmillan gig has raised more than £20,000 for the cancer charity since it was first launched back in 2010.

The event had a break last year. But local musician Kelvin Wood - who started the concerts in memory of his dad Lance Wood, who died from liver cancer in 2009 - has confirmed he is bringing it back this year.

Taking place next month, the line up includes the Edwin Starr Band.

Although the famous American soul singer died in 2003, the eight-piece band now features his brother Angelo on vocals.

Kelvin said: "This is without a doubt one of the biggest worldwide acts we have had at the LW Rock.

"They will be performing all their hits including War , Eye to Eye Contact , Double O Soul , 25 Miles and more."

Also on the bill are hypnotist Grant Saunders and musicians Andy Mudd, as part of his acclaimed Billy Joel Story, Tracey Jordan and Steve Byrne.

Kelvin, who recently moved to Blackpool to further his music career, will also be performing his own set at the concert, under his stage name K-J.

"It has been a bit of a mission to get this one organised with me now being based in Blackpool, I am so grateful to my friends in Cumbria who have jumped on board to help," he added.

Tickets are still available for the show, which will be held at Carlisle's Shepherds Inn, on Wavell Drive on the city's Rosehill Industrial Estate, at 7pm on September 10.

There will also be a raffle, with prizes from local businesses, and all proceeds from the night will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The concert, hosted by ITV's Ryan Dollard, has been sponsored by Roadhead-based Garry Phillips agricultural engineers.
