Traditional baby names are making a come-back - in Cumbria at least.

More than 400 babies and toddlers were entered into this year's News & Star Bonny Babies competition, as proud parents show off their beautiful bairns.

While there are still some more unique and charming names or those with an American influence cropping up - Berrie, Chase, Grayson, Persephanie and Rocco to name just a few - it is the more traditional names which appear most frequently.

Topping the list of boys' names in Bonny Babies 2016 is Alfie, followed closely by Harry, Oscar and Archie. Old favourites Charlie, Freddie and Jack also make an appearance.

A new addition for 2016 however is Teddy or Teddie, which managed to come in at number nine on the list. Riley was number eight, while Tyler ranked tenth.

The top 10 girls' names was also dominated by more old-fashioned names, with top spot going to Lily, followed by Millie and Scarlett.

Both Amelia and Emily made it into the list, with Olivia coming in at number six.

The remaining places were shared equally, with names including Ava, Ellie, Imogen, Layla, Lucy and Isla.

All the Bonny Babies 2016 entrants were published in a special supplement in Saturday's paper - and more than 4,000 votes have already been cast.

The baby category has prompted the most votes, with about 2,600 for the 227 babies.

There have been 850 votes for the 130 boys aged one to three, and 700 votes for the 106 girls in the same age category.

Voting is open until 9am on Saturday, either by completing the form in the supplement or by texting NS BABY followed by a space and then the voting code to 88833.

Thanks to sponsorship by Gretna Gateway Outlet Village, the prizes are: £150 gift cards for shops at the outlet village and a trophy for the winner; £100 gift cards for second place; £75 gift cards for third; and £50 gift cards for fourth in each category.
