HOMEOWNERS and businesses in Egremont are without power.

Electricity North West has engineers on site investigating the issue which is affecting properties in the CA22 area.

Initially 186 customers were affected. All but 29 have been restored and its expected they will be back on soon.

Last night power cuts in west Cumbria affected nearly 4,000 properties in the CA22 and CA23 postcodes.

Electricity North West said they were separate faults, one in Cleator and Ennerdale, affecting 1,027 customers, and another in Egremont affecting 2,746.

Both were reported at about 11.20pm.

Power was restored to 1,003 properties in Cleator and Ennerdale within 30 minutes and engineers worked through the night to restore the final 24 by 4.15am this morning.

All customers in Egremont were back on by 2.21am.

A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: "Our engineers have worked through the night, and in total have restored almost 4,000 properties. We're still investigating the cause and will ensure the network is back to normal as soon as possible.
