The heartbroken family of a woman who died in the A596 tragedy have paid tribute to a woman who always had a smile and cheery words.
Audrey Tunstall, 79, of Cape Road, Seaton, died following injuries suffered in the crash on Saturday evening.
She and her friend Natalli Fisher, 35, had been crossing the busy road near Dunmail Park shopping centre when they were struck by a Volkswagen Passat.
Mrs Fisher is currently at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in a critical condition.
A statement released by Audrey's family this morning said: "Audrey at 79 was still an elegant lady who faced life to the full.
"Many local people who knew Audrey commented on her smile, cheery words and that she was known to help anybody if and when needed and was a good friend to many people.
"This tragedy has left behind a heartbroken loving son, two sisters and their respective families."
It continued: "Audrey was close to the friend [Natalli] who she was with at the time of the collision, and our thoughts are with her and her family.
"We are receiving many cards and flowers and would like to thank everybody."
