Joiner Colin Jackson was followed home by police who saw him getting into his car.
They stopped him on a Carlisle street on December 17 and tested his breath, city magistrates were told.
They discovered he had 57micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Jackson, 53, of Chesterholm on the Sandsfield Park estate, admitted drink-driving when he appeared before the court.
Keith Thomas, defending, said the driving ban could put his job at risk adding that Jackson now had an interview with his employer.
In addition to the ban, Jackson was fined £120 with prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. ”
