More than 1,000 properties in Carlisle were left without electricity after a power cut yesterday evening.

An underground cable fault saw 1,100 customers in the west of the city left without power from about 6.20pm.

It was the third major power outage in a week, after homes and businesses were affected last Friday and Sunday.

A spokeswoman for Electricity North West said the incidents were unrelated.

"We would like to apologise for any disruption to residents and businesses recently affected by intermittent power outages in Carlisle over the last week," she continued.

“The power cuts were caused by two separate faults on the network, the latest last night affected 1,100 customers and power was restored to everyone within 30 minutes.

“The first fault caused the loss of power to around 500 customers last week and everyone was restored just over an hour later.

“Our engineers will be carrying out a full repair on both faults to ensure local customers receive a reliable supply of power to their homes and businesses."

“We would like to thank local customers for their patience and we encourage any residents to contact us if they have any questions on the new free national number 105, or 0800 195 4141 or follow us @ElectricityNW.”
