A man who suffered a cracked skull after an incident on Botchergate is still in hospital two weeks after an attack.
Police said the 56-year-old man, from Carlisle, is in a stable condition.
He is still receiving treatment in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Reece Darren Green, 24, of Fernlea Way, Carlisle, has been charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and criminal damage to a door and frame.
The incident happened on Friday, August 4, near Gallagher's pub.
Green appeared before magistrates in Carlisle last week and was remanded in custody prior to appearing at Carlisle Crown Court on September 4.
