Overnight on Saturday, teams salted roads in Alston, where temperatures reached -1C. They also treated routes in the Brampton area.
Highways aim to grit first priority roads within three hours of work getting underway, while second priority roads are treated within five.
Wherever possible, it says, these roads will be gritted by 8am.
