Nathan John Wilson, 26, of Milburn Street, Workington, stole pens and other stationery worth £388.54 from the town's WHSmith store on February 22.
He appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates Court yesterday (March 13) and admitted the offence.
He also admitted a separate charge of failing to surrender to custody on March 9.
