Police have confirmed that the man pulled from Wast Water, in Wasdale, Seascale has died.

A man in his 60's from Lancashire has been confirmed dead by police, his family have been told.

Cumbria Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Firefighters, police, an air ambulance, coastguard and a mountain rescue team were all called to rescue a diver who was stranded in the Cumbria lake.

The man was pulled from the water by Workington and Whitehaven fire crews and Wasdale Mountain Rescue team.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 12pm.

A statement from Wasdale Mountain Rescue Service read:

"Team called this morning (21/04) for a diver who had got into difficulties in Wast Water. The diver was brought to the surface by other divers and then taken to the lake shore in the team's boat.

"A large multi-agency group had assembled on the lake shore including ambulance and air ambulance crews from both NWAA and GNAA, Cumbria Fire & Rescue, police and coastguard and extensive efforts were made to revive the diver, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful.

"Our thoughts are with the divers family and friends."
