Free parking will be available in Workington town centre on Saturday as the town hosts a series of events.

Allerdale council is offering free parking all day at its multi-storey car park.

The offer comes as the town prepares to host a series of events.

Derwent Park will host the Reboot Tribute Festival from 1pm, promising a full day of non-stop music, food and drink, and children's activities.

Performers include the Clone Roses, Mojo Rising, Soundwave Cumbria, and the UK's number one to the Happy Mondays, the Appy Mundays.

Tickets are free, but limited, and must be booked at cnevents.co.uk/cnevents/familyevents

Things will also hot up in the Washington Square shopping centre as Chilli Fest returns to town.

Centred around the Hub, there will be chilli-based recipes to sample, as well as music, entertainment and children's activities.

Hardened chilli-lovers can get into teams and pit themselves against other competitors in a tasting competition.

Both events are funded by Allerdale council as part of its commitment to make town centres more sustainable and attractive through events.

The council is working with Maryport Blues Festival Ltd on Chilli Fest and CN Events on Reboot.

Councillor Bill Jefferson, the council's executive member responsible for events, said: "It's great to see these two events in Workington which is are just some of the many festivals which we support. I'd encourage everyone to go along and join the fun this weekend. The weather looks like it will be as hot as the chillies!"

Coun Michael Heaslip, executive member responsible for the council's car parks, added: "We are committed to doing what we can to help boost business and trade in our towns. I'm really pleased to be able to provide free parking at the multi-storey car park as not only will it show-off the benefits of using it, but will also mean more people can stay for longer and enjoy the fun."

Also on Saturday, the town will play host to Armed Forces Day celebrations.

A parade will begin on Pow Street at 11am and march to Vulcan Park.

There will also be activities at Workington Royal British Legion Club.

Parking in the multi-storey car park will be free to all users from 7am to 7pm.
