ONE punch during a night out by a fishing boat skipper landed him with a bill for £7,000.

For 35-year-old Craig Robinson was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £6000 towards the dental treatment of his victim.

The court – at Dumfries – was told that the Boxing Day assault resulted in the loss of teeth and injury to the gum of the other man.

In the dock, Robinson, of Cummertrees, admitted punching the other man on the head at The Shed pub in Lady Street, Annan, last December, causing him to fall onto the floor rendering him unconscious to his severe injury and permanent scarring.

Solicitor Vicki Urquhart said that Robinson had been very drunk and had very little recollection of what had happened.

She added that according to witnesses there had been some “interaction” between the two men just before the incident took place.

And she said: “Robinson accepts full responsibility for what happened and is aware that he should just have walked away.”

The court was told that for the dental work to be carried out by the NHS it could take up to two years and the cost privately had originally been put at between £6000 and £10,000, but it had now been ascertained that it would cost just over £6,000.

The solicitor added: “Robinson has been saving up and has £6000 which could be paid to the cost.”

In addition to the fine and compensation, Robinson was banned from entering the Shed pub for two years
