Never mind the kennel - man's best friend can stay in the lap of luxury after a city centre hotel decided to offer creature comforts.

Dog beds, bowls and treats are being provided at The Halston hotel on Warwick Road for pets who enjoy a pamper as they enjoy a break with their owners.

Becky Langley, operations manager at the hotel, said: “We thought it was a good idea as our apartments are a good size and they have wooden floors so they are perfect for dogs.

“We’ve had a couple of dogs stay in the past but it’s always been on a discretionary basis.

“The service is offered in some of the Lake District hotels. They get a lot of dogs because of their location.

“We are so close to Hadrian’s Wall and a lot of people want to walk the wall with their four-legged friend, so we thought it was a good idea.

“The dogs get a bed, treats and a bowl. We are close to a park as well.”

Becky - who herself has a four-year-old black labrador called Wispa - says the hotel has already had a number of bookings for dogs to stay.

The cost is £15 per dog per night.

“We are getting a few enquiries as people get to know about this new service," she added.

“It’s very exciting and it’s fun for the staff as they get to know the dogs as well."

She added: “Guide dogs are free.

“Dogs are not allowed in the public areas of the hotel and must be kept on a lead.

“Guests are also not allowed to leave them unattended in the hotel bedrooms."
