Distington school will be taking part in Cancer Research's 'Race for Life' event on June 28.

Steven Bragg a teacher at the school, said: "We have decided to take part in the 'Race for Life' because we have been working really hard over the past year or so to improve the levels of daily activity that all of our children are engaging with on a daily basis."

During the school year they have had fundraising events, 'Santa Dash' and an 'Easter Bunny Dash', and the children have all enjoyed taking part in these events, so when Mr. Bragg found out about the 'Race for Life Schools' he thought that it would be such a great opportunity for the children to get involved with. He said: "We could raise some money to support such an amazing charity after what has been such a difficult 18 months or so for all charities.

So many people's lives have been affected by cancer and if we are able to give something back even in a small way it will be fantastic."

The race for life will start off the school's annual summer term sports week, which will be taking place from Monday June 28 to Friday July 2.

Mr Bragg said: "We will be running around our school grounds/the school building and children will be running between 1km and 5km."
