Workington Town are hoping centre Joe Hambley will continue in his rich try-scoring form this weekend at Oxford.

Hambley has picked up tries in his side's last three matches, against Whitehaven and Newcastle Thunder, home and away.

And Town director of rugby Les Ashe says the youngster has been a great addition to the squad and he hopes his try-scoring run continues.

The former Barrow Raiders star signed in the close season, along with south of the county amateurs Perry Singleton and Sam Dowsett.

"Joe has been playing well and we hope that he continues this rich vein of form," said Ashe.

"I think Joe, Perry and Sam have all worked really hard since they joined Workington.

"People often forget that they are all travelling around an hour and a half to get here for each training session.

"So, they have shown a lot of commitment to the club."

Singleton missed out on last weekend's narrow League One defeat at the hands of Newcastle Thunder.

He was carrying a slight knock and coach Dave Clark did not want to risk playing him but he will be available for Sunday's trip to Oxford.

Dave Clark has virtually a full squad to choose from, barring injury to Tee Ritson, with centre John Patrick also closing in on a return to action.

Ashe admitted it had been disappointing to lose their opening League One clash narrowly to Newcastle last weekend.

But he says everyone is determined to try and get the first points on the board on Sunday.

"We are very aware that we have lost our last two games back to back against the same opposition in the Challenge Cup and league," he said.

"Although they were tight games, it was lost in disappointing circumstances where we could have gone on to win."

He added: "We want to get our league campaign up and running.

"We know this is only the second game of the season but it is always good to get that first win under your belt."
