Workington Town boss Phil Veivers is scouring the loan market to try and help his injury hit back line.

Veivers says he hopes to have at least one fresh body in the squad ahead of the visit of Swinton Lions in the Championship on Sunday.

The Town side has been struck by more injuries after the loss at Leigh last Sunday as they try and lift themselves off the bottom of the league.

Veivers said: “I don’t think Jack Murphy will play this weekend. He is still struggling to walk with a bad dead leg.

“And I am waiting to see how Tee Ritson is so it will have to be a reorganised back line this weekend.

“Marc Shackley will also struggle to play after he hyper-extended his elbow under friendly fire from Olly Gordon.”

At least five more key players are set to spend the rest of the season on the sideline after going under the knife.

Chris Murphy, Jarrad Stack, Sam Forrester, Latu Fifita and Brett Carter all look to be long-term problems for Veivers.

“I am still looking in the loan market to try and bring in some players and I hope to have one this week,” he added. “But I am still hoping that Tee will be alright.”

Town’s injury woes have been well documented this season, with problems at the start of the season.

But the team was beginning to gel as players returned before the latest batch of injuries struck.

“Now I have a lot of players playing with knocks whereas at the start of the season I had about seven out who couldn’t play at all,” said Veivers.

“It is just really frustrating because we are down on numbers again, and especially when you look at some of those out longer term are starters.”
