Strong-running second-row forward Alex Szostak has signed a new deal with Workington Town for 2017.

The tough Scottish international has pledged his allegiance to the Town cause in League One next season.

And the 6ft 2in second rower is raring to go under the guidance of new boss Dave Clark.

He said: "I’m raring to go.

"I can’t wait to get into pre-season and I’m excited to be part of the club's plans for a mix of playing experience and younger talent.

"The fans here at Workington are second to none and are so passionate about their rugby.

"I hope that I can help the coaching team by passing on my experience and knowledge to the lads and look forward to the new season in League One."

Everyone at the club is delighted Szostak will add his wealth of experience to the side.

He is renowned for his hard tackling and solid defence and has experience in all divisions of the Rugby Football League.

Town director Gary McFarland said Szostak was a welcome addition to next season's squad.

He said: "Alex is a great addition to the squad.

"He never takes a backward step and is an aggressive tackler.

"He has an excellent playing pedigree and I'm really pleased that he's committed to Town for 2017."

Szostak won two league titles during his time with Sheffield Eagles and the second rower has 22 appearances for Scotland under his belt.
