Talented youngster Kieran Mewse says playing for Workington Town is a "dream come true" after signing professional terms this week.

After impressing during the pre-season trial games, the former Seaton amateur was offered a contract with his hometown club - and he jumped at the chance.

The 18-year-old said it was great to be working once again with Dave Clark, who was his coach during his time with Cumbria Storm.

Mewse said: "I’ve supported Town with my dad since I was a kid, so to sign for them is a dream come true.

"I was coached by Dave Clark for two years with Storm, so it is great to be back with him as my coach."

Mewse played in the majority of the pre-season games and showcased his skills in the two derby victories over rivals Haven.

And he was also quick to pay tribute to his amateur club and coaches.

He added: "Being a trialist, I didn’t expect to get much game time, so to play in two derbies against Whitehaven, was unexpected and an unbelievable experience. To win both was even better.

"I’d also like to thank everyone at Seaton for the great coaching I've had at the club over the last few years."

Town head coach Dave Clark said he had been impressed by the youngster and sees him as a long-term prospect for the club.

And his signing continues Town's policy of snapping up top local talent as they build for the future.

"Kieran has really impressed during his trials period in pre-season," said Clark.

"His game awareness, positioning and kicking has been excellent for such a young player, taking his first steps in pro rugby league.

"We will look after him and develop him as a player, and I know that with his attitude, he’ll do really well for Workington Town.

"He is surrounded by a good mix of experience and young talent in the squad. I'm really looking forward to seeing him progress."
