Workington Town are keeping a close eye on loan forward Joe Ryan ahead of Sunday’s crunch League 1 game at York City Knights.

Ryan hobbled off the field during last weekend’s 30-30 draw with Keighley Cougars at Derwent Park.

And Town boss Dave Clark was unsure if he would feature in the final game before the league split.

“Joe has an ankle injury,” said Clark. “So we have to monitor him through the week and see how he goes.

“Other than that, we will hopefully carry on next week and maybe get some bodies back.”

Clark admitted he was not against dipping back into the loan market if Ryan cannot play.

But he is hoping the Warrington youngster will recover in time to travel.

He added: “Hopefully, we will get some bodies through from loans if we need any, which may depend on what happens with Joe.

“If he recovers, we will put him back in there but we have got some options moving forward for next week.”

Town were hit by another blow at the back end of last week with prop Phil Joseph again ruled out of action.

Joseph had returned to training last Wednesday after a short spell out through injury.

But he pulled his hamstring during training. Clark was unsure how long he would be missing for but added that he would be unlikely to play at York.

“He’s been out for three weeks and then he did it again in training on Wednesday,” confirmed Clark.

“I’m not sure how long he will be out now. We will have to bandage him up and make sure he gets it right before he comes back.”

Fellow prop Kris Coward is also nearing a return after going under the knife for a knee cleanout but is at least another week away.
