Workington Reds opened their pre-season account in style, clinching victory over Whitehaven Amateurs to lift the Shaun Hocking Memorial Trophy.

Reds won the clash 10-2 after swapping their entire team at half time to give players game time.

It was an action packed opening with four goals in the first 20 minutes.

Reds opened the scoring as Sam Joel sneaked one in from a tight angle.

But Whitehaven struck right back to equalise through Chris Moore and then took the lead as Adam Tubman planted the ball in the back of the net from a goalmouth scramble.

Reds equalised as Scott Allison chipped the keeper and then the powerful forward got on the end of a nice cross from Conor Tinnion and calmly slotted it home to take the lead.

After half time and a full team swap for Reds they widened their lead after Anthony Wright mishit a shot in the box and Jack Ryan was there to follow it up.

Ryan picked up his side's fifth goal as he bore down on the keeper and slotted it past him.

New boy Jamie Mellon got himself on the scoresheet when he met Dave Symington's corner and headed home.

And Ryan got his hat-trick inside the final seven minutes when he chipped the keeper for a lovely goal and then made it four when he tapped home from a corner.

Nathan Waterston got his just rewards after battling hard all match when he found himself in space with just the keeper to beat and found the back of the net for 9-2.

Ad the scoring was finished when Anthony Wright was brought down in the box and he stepped up to slot his own penalty home to hand Reds a convincing 10-2 win.
