Workington Reds joint-boss Lee Andrews praised his side after they earned an FA Trophy replay.

A Scott Allison goal on 66 minutes gave Reds a 1-1 draw at Weston-super-Mare which set-up tomorrow night’s re-match.

“We weren’t happy how we had played in the first half and the lads went out determined to put it right,” said Andrews.

“Their response was excellent and overall I thought we did enough to have won the game.

"I thought everyone made a big contribution to what was a very good team effort.”

But he was at pains to emphasise that the job has still to be finished.

“I know they won’t be looking forward to a long midweek journey, but we have to make sure we tackle Tuesday’s game in the right manner," he added.

“We should have everyone available again and if we can start like we finished at Weston-super-Mare we will fancy our chances."

It’s a 620-mile round trip and already there have been suggestions that the Somerset team will be short of several regulars.

Seagulls’ manager Mark McGregor, who praised Reds for their second-half performance, has faith in his squad.

“I have enough players and if any of the younger ones have to come in, I know they will want to take their chances,” he said.

One Weston player who is unlikely to make the trip is goalkeeper Luke Purnell. He is a PE teacher at a prominent local school who will find it difficult to get time off.

Purnell made a point of applauding the Workington fans behind his goal after the tie finished.

The bulk of them had set-off from Workington at 5am to make the game.

Although taking plenty of stick from them, Purnell appreciated how they had helped spur on their side to a vintage second-half performance.
