Workington Reds defender Jake Simpson says his side's heroics at Whitby on Tuesday night means they have every chance of getting another result on the road at Warrington this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The right-back was one of just 14 players who were available for the trip to the north east in midweek.

Despite going a goal down, teenage forward Nathan Waterston opened his league account for the club to salvage a 1-1 draw.

The stalemate provided a rare moment of joy in a difficult week for the Borough Park outfit.

Reds lost 3-1 to Matlock on Saturday, striker Tom Kilifin left at the start of the week and Phil McLuckie announced his retirement on Wednesday.

Simpson said: "Tuesday night was very pleasing and we did well to play and nullify their threat.

"In the second half, I think we were on top of our game.

"A point against a team at the top of the table is a point we would have taken at the start of the day."

Yesterday, joint-manager Dave Hewson admitted his side were searching for new signings to fill the void left by McLuckie and Kilifin.

On the pitch, the management team will have to make do with long-term absentees Anthony Wright and Gari Rowntree.

James Earl will serve the last match of his three-game suspension. The players were due to train on Thursday night as normal.

Josh Calvert is also unlikely to start - but Kyle May, Callum Henderson and Tom Fowler are available again.

Opponents Warrington have adjusted well to life in the seventh tier and sit in fifth place after 15 games.

Reds have already beaten The Yellows this season in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

Simpson added: "Warrington came up to us in the cup with their strongest squad and, because we got a result against them, it gives us extra confidence.

"We also take confidence from Tuesday. It's another step to getting us on a run of games where we go unbeaten or on a winning streak."
