A poor effort from Workington Reds saw them go down to their opening league defeat at the hands of Barwell.

A lone goal from Tyrell Shannon-Lewis proved to be the difference between the two sides at the final whistle.

Reds lacked any cohesion and there were only a smattering of real attempts on goal.

Scott Allison had a chance from the penalty spot but his effort was saved.

Joe McGee and Conor Tinnion both had efforts saved by the keeper.

But then in the 56th minute Barwell took the lead and they held out to emerge winners.

There was a late chance for Rob Wilson who received the cross at the penalty spot but his shot went high over the bar.

Reds will have to regroup for their trip to Buxton on Tuesday.
