Workington Comets will start their 2017 SGB Championship campaign at home to Sheffield.

Comets welcome the Tigers in their first A fixture on April 8, following the Cumberland Open Championship on March 25 and back-to-back Knockout Cup fixtures home and away against Newcastle on the first weekend of April.

Testimonial man Adam Roynon will host his celebration meeting on September 23.

Team manager Tony Jackson said: “Steve Whitehead and I have been working behind the scenes through a few drafts to get them sorted, with the rugby club as well.

“It’s very much a northern-based league really and of course the big difference this year is there’s no League Cup.”

As part of changes agreed at the British Speedway Promoters Association’s annual general meeting at the end of last season, teams will now race against each other twice home and twice away, in A and B fixtures.
