Josh Grajczonek remains a doubt to face his former club Workington Comets tonight at Derwent Park, 7pm start.

The Sheffield Tigers star picked up a hand injury at King’s Lynn on Wednesday evening when riding for Somerset.

This meant he missed the Tigers’ big home victory over Berwick on Thursday evening but, as number one, the Tigers are entitled to bring in a guest replacement for Grajczonek should the need arise.

The clash will see the Comets get their SGB Championship campaign under way at Derwent Park and club owner Laura Morgan believes it will be an exciting start.

She said: “After the disappointment of last week’s match against Newcastle being postponed, everyone is keen to get our home team fixtures under way and this is certainly a mouth-watering fixture with which to get started.

“Sheffield are a strong looking side on paper and, with some of their riders having done a lot of laps around Derwent Park in the past, we know that they will be just as formidable on track.

“But, if we ride as we know that we can, we can get our league season off to the perfect start and it certainly promises to be a great night of racing for the supporters to enjoy.”

Comets are at full strength for this fixture and go into it encouraged by their display at Newcastle’s Brough Park last Sunday.

Following tonight’s meeting, the newly-formed Workington Speedway Trust will be holding a ‘Meet the Riders’ event in the bar under the grandstand, which will also be used as a fund-raising photo opportunity for supporters.

Meanwhile, last Saturday’s rained off Knockout Cup fixture against Newcastle will be re-staged at Derwent Park on Saturday, April 22, when it now becomes the second leg of the cup tie.
